Prague senior Isabella McGinnis goes out of her way to volunteer in her community while excelling in her studies.
She has been selected as one of The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Students of the Month for February and is now in the running to win a car.
Recently, McGinnis was chosen to receive Prague High School's Apple of Excellence award. This award is given by the school's administration and teachers to an outstanding student.
“Isabella has one of the sweetest dispositions of any student I've had the pleasure of knowing,” Prague School Counselor Stephanie Lee said. “She not only has a sweet smile, she also displays a great deal of character, good morals and she is an all-around great student.”
McGinnis spends a good portion of her free time volunteering in the community, school and church. She is currently a member of FFA and 4-H, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society and cheer.
In the community, McGinnis volunteers at the school's concession stand, Christmas in the Park, cheer camp for the elementary students, Colleen Cleveland 5K and her FFA chapter made scarves for the residents of the local nursing home.
“Isabella is quick to offer suggestions of ways to improve our school and our community,” Lee said. “Her newest plan is to help her church at spring break and this summer.”
The Prague faculty commend McGinnis on her moral integrity.
“Isabella is one of our most trusted students at Prague High School,” Lee said. “She is utilized by every teacher, if they need a student's help. All of our teachers and staff know that Isabella will get the job completed and it will be finished with a smile and an encouraging word.”
McGinnis currently maintains a 3.81 GPA.
