A message from Dr. April Grace, Superintendent:

Shawnee Public Schools will be closed on Monday, April 2, in support of a Teacher Walk Out to allow teachers an opportunity to provide advocacy at the Capitol.

We will run the routes for feeding students as previously publicized. We believe it is important to thank legislators for taking positive steps forward in the right direction for Oklahoma education, as well as continue to encourage them to increase education funding and fill the hole for the hotel/motel tax repeal.

It is imperative that we continue to have increases in funding for operational costs in order to reduce class sizes and provide the necessary resources for our teachers. We recognize the incredible and historic efforts that have been made and do not take those lightly. Our intentions are to resume school and instructional services as quickly as possible. We will communicate about further plans as those decisions are solidified. As a reminder, the ACT will go forward on April 3rd as has been communicated previously regardless of any other pending decisions. We appreciate the ongoing support of local legislators and the community.
