Republican Bill V. Meek announces that he will be a candidate for Pottawatomie County Commissioner in District 1 in the 2018 election cycle.

“I am running for Pottawatomie County Commissioner District 1 because I have a varied blend of private sector experience that will serve the citizens of Pottawatomie well,” Meek said. “As a business manager for a large fuel distributor for fifteen years prior to retirement, I oversaw the processing of over $100 million dollars of revenue annually while managing an office and field staff. It is this experience and more that will aid in making wise decisions and managing personnel as a commissioner.”

It was recently reported in the Shawnee News-Star the Board of County Commissioners approved an overall county budget just over $5.6 million dollars.

“Throughout my business career I have had the opportunity to develop valuable interpersonal skills while working alongside staff and negotiating and developing relationships with vendors. My experience as an auditor and accountant will help us hold our commission accountable to the taxpayers and citizens of Pottawatomie County. I look forward to earning your vote and serving you once elected. I am willing to put in the hard work that Pottawatomie County deserves.”

Bill Meek has a BA degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma with additional education in accounting from the University of Oklahoma.

Bill has been active since 2008 with Cargo Ranch youth program and currently serves as board president. He is also involved with Shawnee’s Neighboring 101 initiative and currently serves as a facilitator in the “Getting Ahead” program.

Bill and his wife Linda, a retired commercial bank trust administrator, will be celebrating 50 years of marriage in May. They have one daughter and two granddaughters. Bill and Linda reside on a 60 acre parcel a few miles northwest of Shawnee.
