At the end of a three-day filing period Friday, an election developed for the Ward 1 Shawnee City Commission seat and the District 1 Pottawatomie County Commission seat, while all other city and county candidates ran unopposed.

Shawnee

An election has developed for the Ward 1 Shawnee City Commission seat, while those filing for the Ward 5 and 6 seats won unopposed.

Ed Bolt filed for the Ward 1 seat Wednesday and on Friday drew an opponent in Steve Palmer.

Current Ward 1 Commissioner Dub Bushong did not file for re-election.

In Ward 5, current City Commissioner Lesa Shaw also didn't seek re-election, with local businessman Mark Sehorn filing for that seat and winning unopposed.

In Ward 6, current City Commissioner Ben Salter filed to retain his post and did not draw an opponent.

Pottawatomie County

The only election needed in a Pottawatomie County race will be for District 1 County Commissioner.

Incumbent Melissa Dennis, 50, Shawnee, is running as a Republican and drew a Republican opponent, Bill V. Meek, 73, Shawnee.

District 3 County Commissioner Eddie Stackhouse, 47, Maud, filed to retain his seat and drew no opponents.

Pottawatomie County Assessor Troyce King, 50, of Shawnee won his seat unopposed, as did Pottawatomie County Treasurer Wendy Magnus, 50, of Shawnee.
