Construction is booming along Garret's Lake Road, where work continues at the site of the new North Rock Creek High School.

In a special election held on Jan. 10, 2017, voters in the North Rock Creek school district voted in favor of a $20,910,000 bond issue that would allow district to expand classes past eighth grade and construct a new high school for the district.

The bond issue did prompt a 21-percent increase in property taxes. For every $1,000 paid in property taxes, residents are now paying an extra $210 annually.

The new high school is a 45,350-square-foot building that consists of 20 classroom spaces, a cafeteria and kitchen, band room, and vocational and agriculture space.

The new school should be completed by the 2018-19 school year.
