Shawnee police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting overnight and the OSBI has now released the name of the man who was shot.
Shawnee Police Chief Mason Wilson said the incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate.
Wilson said officers responded to 40209 Wolverine Road at 2:33 a.m. for a domestic disturbance. Officers were advised a suspect, later identified by OSBI as 27-year-old Dakota Price, was armed with a handgun and a shotgun but other residents were unsure of his whereabouts, he reported.
"Officers were checking the residence and the yard when they encountered the suspect," Wilson said. "The suspect pointed a firearm at the officers and was shot by officers."
The suspect was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital, the chief said. Information on the suspect's updated medical condition is awaited.
Once the OSBI's investigation is complete, a comprehensive report will be given to the Pottawatomie County District Attorney's Office. The OSBI does not release names of involved officers unless they are charged with a crime.
