SHAWNEE – The first day of the 2018 Elks Invitational got underway at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Shawnee Elks Lodge and Tyler Hargus shot a course record to get the weekend off to a great start.

Hargus led all golfers with an 8-under 64. But his Saturday score won't keep him safe all weekend. Two former champions are still very much in contention. Craig Van Horn shot a 66 Saturday and Robby Komatcheet fired a 69. 

Joel Driver (70) and Garrett McDaniel (71) also broke par on Saturday with Braden Ricks and Jeffrey Topp coming in at par.

Hargus will tee off at 1:30 Sunday in the final group with Van Horn and Komatcheet.

Mike Blizzard shot a 73 in the B-Flight to finish the day one over on the 72-par course. Justin Canfield and Dustin Tarbox each finished two over with a 74 and Ryan Loudon shot a 75 – all were in the B-Flight with Blizzard.

Also in the B-Flight, Dalton Smith, Paul Petty and Chris King each shot 76, Chris Cox shot a 77 and Josh Wahpepah shot 78.

Lamey Bryan and Bruce Throckmorton shot three over to finish the first day with a 75 and lead the C-Flight. Pete Cantrell and John Wright shot 77 and Eric Whitesel shot a 78.

Joe Rick Parsons shot a 77 to lead the D-Flight as Ronnie Larman shot 78 and Justin Parsons shot a 79 and Pete Hess led the E-Flight with an 82.

The F-Flight was led by Pat Rowe, who shot a 78 and Robert Summers, David Bernard, Terry Williams and Charlie Gray each shot an 81. Austin Smith shot an 82.

The three day tournament will continue Sunday at 8 a.m. as the F-Flight tees off. E-Flight will begin teeing off at 9 a.m., D-Flight 10 a.m., C-Flight 11 a.m. and B-Flight at noon.
