Over the weekend, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office hosted a poker run to benefit the reserve deputy program.
The poker run had 40 riders participating and raised approximately $600.
Former Pottawatomie County Sheriff Paul Abel started the reserve program in the county in the 1980s.
Over the years, the reserve program has changed. For current sheriff Mike Booth, the reserves provide assistance to the various units within the sheriff's office with day-to-day tasks just as a regular sheriff's deputy would.
