The annual McLoud Blackberry Festival will return to Veterans Memorial Park with a new carnival July 6.

According to the McLoud Chamber of Commerce website, the Blackberry Festival began in the 1940s to celebrate the end of harvest season.

The festival, which is celebrating over 70 years, is under contract with Great Plains Amusements this year.

The two-day festival will open at 5 p.m. Friday with the pageant evening gown competition and group performance starting at 6. The Blackwater Smoke band will follow and close with a show at 9.

Day two will open at 9 a.m. with the parade beginning at 10. Participants will line up on 8th Street, take a right onto West Broadway, head north after passing 5th, turn left onto Hinkley and make their way back around.

The festival will also host the 3rd annual car show presented by Noizy Toyz. The show will be located on the north end of McLoud Veterans Memorial Park on the corner of 6th and Park Street. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

After The Wise Guy’s perform their set at 8, fireworks will close out the festival around 10 p.m.

The Blackberry Festival’s theme this year is “Through the Decades.” For the full schedule, visit the McLoud Chamber of Commerce website.
