Shawnee's Morgan Lunceford was named the Most Valuable Pitcher for the Wilson Premier Championships in Florida this week.
“Playing in Arizona with the 17U team really helped me prepare for these big events,” Lunceford said. “I was fortunate enough to play with an elite group of athletes from Team Elite. I really want to keep getting better and be able to help Shawnee more next season.”
Lunceford's Team Elite went 8-0 and won the Class of 2021 tournament.
In the championship game, Lunceford pitched five innings, striking out four and walking one without surrendering a run.
His overall performance was just as dominating as he totaled seven innings of work while striking out seven. Lunceford did not give up a run in his time on the mound.
As a freshman at Shawnee High School, Lunceford compiled a record of 4-2 with 55 strikeouts. He also pitched 42 1/3 innings and finished with a 1.98 earned run average.
