Macomb recently held a school supplies drive to help local students and parents in that community.

“We decided this summer to attempt to obtain all of the supplies on our supply list to help our parents out,” said Sharon Spikes. “While we were unable to obtain all of the supplies for all students, we were able to obtain about 80 percent off all the supplies for all students.”

That's helpful in Macomb, where 100 percent of the students receive free lunches through state certification, she said.

They had a very busy summer and had three yard sales to raise funds, she said, along with donation jars and collection boxes at Cope's Cafe in Macomb. A Facebook fundraiser helped raise awareness as well.
