Several area teams competed in weekend tournaments and there were a lot of great individual performances worth mentioning.

With rain postponing a few games until Saturday, many teams were forced to play two games in an afternoon and in a few cases back-to-back games.

Ike Shirey – Dale Pirates

Shirey maximized his opportunities at the plate in the Dale Pirate Invitational. Shirey was batting ninth for the Pirates and came up big in the seminal matchup with the Rattan Rams. He knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inniing. Shirey went 5 for 9 for the tournament. He also had two RBIs, scored three runs and swiped three bases.

Bryson Martin – Asher Indians

Martin pitched a complete game in the Asher's 2-1 win against Roff Saturday morning. The victory put Asher in the championship game of the Dale Pirate Invitational. Martin, a freshman thrown into the fire early in his high school career, maintained his composure and pitched himself out of a few jams. He struck out five Roff batters. In the championship game, Martin went 1 for 2 at the plate with two RBIs.

Josi Goodman – Prague Lady Red Devils

In her last three games Goodman has been on fire, going 6 for 12 at the plate and scored five runs along with five RBIs. In that stretch, the Lady Red Devils are 3-0 and have destroyed the opposition, outscoring them at a 33-3 clip.

Makalyn Herring – Chandler Lady Lions

Herring, who started in the circle, was on fire at the plate in a 24-0 win over Agra Saturday morning. Herring went 3 for 3 at the plate with four RBIs. One of her three hits was a triple. She also scored three runs in the win. Herring recorded a three inning shutout, striking out four Agra batters.

Rian Gamble – Bethel Lady Wildcats

In a 4-2 win over Bridge Creek Friday evening, Gamble proved why she's one of the top leadoff hitters in the area. She went 3-3 with two runs scored and a double.

Tatum Sparks – Shawnee Lady Wolves

Even though Shawnee fell to Carl Albert 2-0 Friday evening, the sophomore went 3 for 4 and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle.

At the end of the fall sports season, we will announce the Buffalo Wild Wings News-Star Preps Team for each sport.
