Shawnee firefighters have pulled together this year to help 1-year-old Marshal Moreno, the son of firefighter Mykel Moreno who was diagnosed with stage three liver cancer.

The Shawnee Fire Foundation and Local 206 held a benefit car wash and event in March. And in a show of both support for Marshal and solidarity, all Shawnee firefighters on the Red, Blue and Green shifts then decided to shave their heads bald for Team Marshal.

Now the firefighters and members of the community are stepping up once again to help the Moreno family.

A benefit raffle is being held for the chance to win a Samsung Family Hub 24.2 cubic feet Energy Star and Fingerprint resistant Black Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator with ice maker. The refrigerator retails for $3,499. It is currently on display in Shawnee City Hall.

Tickets, which are being sold by Shawnee Fire Department personnel, are $10 each and will be located at Fire Station No. 1, 16 W. Ninth Street.

The drawing for the refrigerator will be held on Aug. 27.

To help with medical expenses, a bank fund was previously set up for the Moreno family at Arvest Bank and there is also a GoFundMe page at: https://www.gofundme.com/marshals-medical-fund.
