City Commissioners on Monday named Eric Benson as interim city manager as the search for a new leader begins.

City Manager Justin Erickson announced his resignation recently; he and his family are moving to Washington state.

Erickson said after serving eight years as Enid's city manager, Benson retired in 2014.

“Now that he's been appointed, they're going to transition me out and him in,” Erickson said. “I'll be out of the city probably this week sometime.”

For those wishing to offer a final goodbye, there's still a little time.

He said the actual move out of state is still about two weeks away.

Erickson said it has been his sincere privilege to serve the City of Shawnee for the last 10 years, including the last three as city manager.

The board voted to form a committee that will begin the search for a replacement. City Commissioners Ed Bolt, Ron Gillham Sr. and James Harrod were named to that committee.
