Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Deputies have talked to one of two people being sought after a chase ended in a crash near Tecumseh Tuesday.

Deputies became involved in a pursuit after responding to a call involving suspects allegedly stealing copper and trying to get scrap metal to sell, Sheriff Mike Booth said, such as pulling siding off a home and trying to take old cars.

As part of the case, Travis Maxwell Pate, 32, was arrested on complaints of possession of stolen property and grand larceny, Booth said. Pate remains jailed in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center; formal charges have not been filed.

Two other suspects reportedly fled in a pickup, which resulted in the pursuit. That chase ended with the pickup crashing into a pond in the 29000 block of Old Highway 18, the sheriff said.

It was unknown if the suspects bailed before the truck crashed into the water or after. Booth said the Chickasaw Nation Dive team responded to check the pond, but neither suspect was found.

Booth said deputies knew they were looking for a male and female. On Wednesday, Booth said the female came to the sheriff's office and was questioned; the second suspect remains at-large.

An investigation is ongoing, but all case reports will be turned over to the district attorney's office.
