Ivan R. Patterson, 84, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.

He was born March 2, 1934, to Tom and Eva (Zimmerman) Patterson in Gotebo, Oklahoma.

Ivan lived in Western Oklahoma, Seminole and the remainder of his life in Shawnee.

He was a graduate of Shawnee High School, class of 1952.

Ivan married Janita Miller on Feb. 26, 1955, in Shawnee.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard (CVA 31).

Ivan was the owner/operator of Patterson Roofing and Sheet Metal, later known as Patterson & Associates Construction, which was originally started by his father. Ivan, along with his brothers and sister, continued the family owned business since the 1950s. After his brothers and sister passed away, he continued the business over the years with his children. He stayed active until he recently retired due to health issues.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Shawnee. His greatest enjoyment was attending his grandchildren’s activities. In his younger years he loved to ride horses and enjoyed hunting, fishing and staying at his lake home at Lake Eufaula.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas Curtis Patterson; two brothers, Eulyce Roger Patterson and Earnest Albert Patterson; and sister, Ruby Mae (Patterson) Almon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63½ years, Janita Patterson of the home; son, Ivan Scott Patterson and Roxann Grinnell of Shawnee; daughter, Jill Janine Anderson and husband Bobby of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Ashley Patterson, McKayla Patterson, Jared Anderson, Heather Anderson, Josh Liles, Cody Liles and Logan Liles; one great-grandchild, Bryson VanDyke; numerous nieces, nephews and other close family and friends.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, at Aydelotte Baptist Church in Shawnee with Pastor Monte Dean officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
