Project Manager Taylor Shekarabi, of the Blue Zones Project, offered a quick update about the community's walking school bus initiative.

“I know that at the last meeting Mayor (Richard) Finley had put out a call to everybody to start volunteering to help walk more kids to school,” she said.

Since then, she said the district now has two new walking school bus routes.

“Gordon Cooper (Technology Center) has stepped up and they're going to have some people help walk at Horace Mann once a week,” she said. “And then a couple of volunteers are going to get some kids at Grove walking once a week.”

That means there are still a lot of schools that would love more volunteers, Shekarabi said.

“If you are part of a service group or anything else in town, we're trying to get as many kids walking as possible,” she said. “Not only because it's important for their health, but also to use all the sidewalks we're putting in as a city, and all the safety features that we're trying to put in.”
