PERRY — Meeker won the rushing battle Friday night en route to a 14-6 triumph over Perry.

All of the scoring came in the first half, starting with Caden Wolford’s 1-yard run. That culminated an 86-yard drove off the opening kickoff. Jacob Martin’s conversion run made it 8-0.

The Bulldogs made it 14-0 in the second quarter as Dawson Stansberry fielded an 11-yard scoring pass from Martin but the 2-point conversion effort failed.

Perry made it 14-6 at halftime on a Blayze Herlinger scoring run.

It rained pretty heavily in the first quarter, then let up a bit in the second quarter. There was no rain in the second half.

Meeker, 3-0, held the ball the final three minutes of the game before taking a knee at the Perry 4-yard line.

Wolford led all rushers with 127 yards on 30 attempts. Martin added 40 yards on 14 rushes.

Meeker outrushed Perry 191-90.

Martin hit 6 of 14 passes with two interceptions. Stansberry caught three passes for 45 yards. Dakota Gabbert fielded two passes for 32 yards.

Noah Breedlove of Meeker posted a second-half fumble recovery.

Gabbert finished with seven tackles. J.J. Bloomer recorded a sack among his four tackles.

“We never flinched. We played really well,” Meeker coach D.J. Howell said “Like a boxing match, we like to keep going to the body and wear people down. We had an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter and kept making defensive stops. We kept making first downs on the last drive.”
