A chili dog benefit dinner has been scheduled Nov. 6 in Lincoln County to help Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Charles Cowden and his family.

Cowden, a 21-year veteran of the patrol, has been diagnosed with toxic lead poisoning, which has invaded his brain, bones and vital organs.

As a result, he needs more than 50 chelation treatments, and so far, he has completed about half of them.

Cowden and his wife, Kristie have four children — Kelsie, Colton, Kenzie, and Cade. The fundraiser is hoped to take as much burden off the family as possible so Trooper Cowden can get the treatment he needs.

The event is being planned from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Tammy's Route 66 Round-Up Cafe in Davenport.
