A 19-year-old who remains hospitalized is now formally charged in a shooting death that occurred last month at Linden Apartments in Shawnee.

Braylan Auskin Franklin is now formally charged in Pottawatomie County District Court with second-degree murder; a $250,000 arrest warrant has been issued, court records show.

A late-night altercation that escalated into a shooting last month resulted in the death of Robert Brannon Jr., 21.

Franklin was injured in the shootout and has since been hospitalized in Oklahoma City, prosecutors said.

According to the court filing, Franklin is accused, on or between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26, of causing Brannon's death by firing a 9mm semi-automatic pistol into the chest of Brannon, “an act which occurred while in the commission of the felony offense of possession of firearm after former adjudication as a youthful offender,” the charge reads.

That prior felony involved a case from 2017 in Oklahoma County.

Police initially responded about 11:38 p.m. Sept. 25 to Linden Apartments, 315 S. Kennedy, for a shots fired report. What began as a disturbance in the parking lot escalated into a shooting between Brannon and Franklin, said Shawnee Police Cpl. Vivian Lozano-Stafford.

Brannon was transported by personal vehicle to SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital - Shawnee for medical treatment, where he died from his injuries.

Franklin was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, where he continues to recover.
