Pottawatomie County sales tax returns up from last year

Pottawatomie County’s current sales tax returns are up over last year’s numbers, according to figures released recently by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
The county’s May 2008 returns, at a tax rate of 1 percent, total more than $601,200. The county’s May 2007 returns, at the same tax rate, totaled more than $562,500.
Pottawatomie County’s returns to date, within the respective fiscal years, totaled more than $6 million for May 2007 and more than $6.32 million for May 2008. The fiscal years run from July 1 to June 30.
At the city level, Shawnee’s sales tax returns, at a tax rate of 3 percent, totaled more than $1.267 million for May 2007. The city’s returns for May 2008, at the same tax rate, totaled more than $1.279 million.
Shawnee’s returns to date were more than $13.455 million for May 2007 and more than $14.112 million for May 2008.
Tecumseh’s sales tax returns, at a tax rate of 3 percent, rose over the one-year period. The city’s returns for May 2007 totaled more than $64,750, and were more than $65,100 for May 2008. Tecumseh’s returns to date rose from more than $678,240 for May 2007 to more than $679,640 for May 2008.
Earlsboro’s returns, at a tax rate of 2 percent for the 2006-07 fiscal year, totaled more than $14,890 for May 2007. The city’s tax rate was increased to 3 percent for the 2007-08 fiscal year, and the May 2008 returns total just over $14,680. Earlsboro’s returns to date rose from more than $128,000 for May 2007 to more than $170,300 for May 2008.
McLoud’s sales tax returns, at a tax rate of 3 percent, rose from more than $33,250 for May 2007 to more than $37,990 for May 2008. The city’s returns to date rose from more than $344,760 to more than $388,900 over the same period.
Asher’s returns, at a tax rate of 4 percent, rose from more than $4,280 for May 2007 to more than $5,450 for May 2008. The city’s returns to date fell, however, going from more than $51,500 for May 2007 to just over $48,640 for May 2008.
Wanette’s sales tax returns, at a tax rate of 2 percent for the 2006-07 fiscal year, totaled more than $1,100 for May 2007. The city’s tax rate was increased to 3.5 percent for the 2007-08 fiscal year, and returns totaled more than $1,750 for May 2008. The city’s returns to date jumped by more than $10,000 over the same one-year period, going from more than $14,000 to more than $24,390.
Pink’s returns, at a tax rate of 3 percent, totaled more than $930 for May 2008. The city’s returns to date total more than $8,180.
