Shawnee Mall will hold its inaugural smART Style event to support area students in developing and expressing their creativity.
Festivities will take place Oct. 3 in the southeast corner of the mall’s property and is open to the community.
Students, middle school through college, are encouraged to participate.
The event provides not only the chance to showcase their work to the community but also the opportunity to have photos of their smART Style entries displayed in the mall.
The mall also will present prizes, from the mall and its sponsors, to the winners of each category. A “Kid’s Canvas” will also be open to the younger budding artists of the area for their enjoyment throughout the day.
Local musical artists and vendors will provide entertainment and shopping during the day in addition to the many stores and restaurants located at the mall.
“The event is a chance for the community to discover the depth of artistry in the area, not only with the chalk art but music, painting, poetry and many other creative avenues,” said Jenniffer Podest of the mall.
The smART Style event will be funded through Shawnee Mall and participating sponsors. Podest is confident that by working with area businesses cost for participants will be minimal.
The goal is to provide entry fees and chalk through sponsorship allowing more people to participate.
The mall is seeking sponsorships for the event but invites anyone interested to contact the mall. For more information, call Podest at 405-275-7253 or by email at jpodest@thelightstonemalls.com.
