Band members win competition

Tecumseh High School students, band members and spirit squads recently participated in Frontier Days celebrations and the band received several awards in recent competitions.
On Oct. 3, the band placed first in field competition, first in parade competition and received outstanding soloist in the field competition all at Tishomingo. Michael Lam was the soloist in the field competition.
The band also won the Large School Sweepstakes during the Chickasaw Nation Annual Meeting and Festival.
A dozen THS students also made the All-District Choir after competing with about 40 additional students during auditions held Oct. 5. Students who made the choir are Allona Cearley, Lyric Grimes, Aunisty George, Alex Touchette, Dalton Tucker, Josh Coats, Zane Greenwald, Chase Haberland, Kyle Shannon, Alex Clark, Cort Richardson, and Stephen Timperley.
Each of the 12 students will go Nov. 2 and 3 to Guthrie to perform at the Scottish Rite Temple.
Middle and high school choirs will perform at the Little Dixie contest Oct. 29 in Ada.
The Tecumseh FFA will represent Oklahoma as a National Finalist and Model of Innovation in Student Development Oct. 20 through 24 at the National FFA Convention to be held in Indianapolis.
Graduating seniors may order announcements, caps, gowns and other items Nov. 5.
Several scholarship deadlines are fast-approaching for seniors. Among them are the Coca-Cola scholarship, with application available at www.coca-colascholars.org, deadline Oct. 31; the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarship, for children or grandchildren of Elks Lodge members, application available at www.elks.org/enf/findalodge.com, deadline Nov. 2; and Oral Roberts University, deadline Nov. 15.
