In recognition of American Education Week, Nov. 15 through 21, and Retired Educators Day, Nov. 17, Pottawatomie County Retired Educators will honor one of its most-active members.
Hazel McDaniel, 91, will receive a Pioneer Award of Merit from the Oklahoma Retired Educators association for her years of commitment and dedicated service as a teacher to Oklahoma’s children.
“We are privileged to support and recognize our retired educators through Retired Educators Day during AEW in Oklahoma and are proud of all the dedicated pioneer educators who came before us that inspire us to work diligently for Oklahoma’s children,” Rosemarie Bushong, president of Shawnee Association of Classroom Teachers, said.
McDaniel was the immediate past president of Diamond K Kiwanis, a past president of the PCRE Association and currently serves with a group ministry at Colonial Estates and volunteers every week at Shawnee Early Childhood Center, Rose Lee Rush, president of Pottawatomie County Retired Educators, said.
She is also very active in her church, North Rock Creek Baptist.
“Hazel is one of the most active members in our local unit and consistently records many volunteer hours of service to others,” Rush said. “She certainly deserves the Award of Merit.”
