Eight-week pharmacy technician class offered

Seminole State College’s Business and Industry Training Program is offering an eight-week course for Pharmacy Technician Certification starting Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center, Room 104.
The course schedule is 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 6 through Dec. 1.
The cost of the course is $999, books included.
This 50 hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board’s exam.
Students are encouraged to have completed math and science in high school and to have a high school diploma or GED to register for the course.
Pharmacy technicians may work in hospitals, clinics, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings, working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. 
Students will learn dosage calculations, intravenous flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, billing and reimbursement.  
Those wanting to enroll may call Carol Hartman, business and training coordinator at 382-9246.
Participants can also enroll at the college’s Office of Admissions in the Tanner Hall Administration building from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
