The Shawnee Board of Education voted Tuesday to sell $3 million in bonds recently approved by voters for Dec. 8.
The sale will take place at 12:45 p.m. at the administration building, 326 N. Union.
The special meeting was called because the board needed to approve the selling of the bonds to comply with law.
On Nov. 10, citizens in the I-93 school district approved the bond issue to spend $1.87 million to repair and replace the high school roof, remodel restrooms, replace lockers, retrofit the lighting and electrical system and update the heating and ventilated air system at the high school. The remaining $1.13 million will be used to construct, furnish and equip new restroom and concession facilities at the football stadium.
The issue passed with 1,138, or 82.17 percent, voting yes, and 247, or 17.83 percent, voting no.
According to the notice of sale of bonds, the bonds will be sold to the bidder bidding the lowest rate of interest the bonds shall bear and agreeing to pay par and accrued interest. Each bidder may submit the bid in cash, cashier’s or certified check, electronic wire transfer or surety bond payable to the treasurer of the district, equal to 2 percent of the amount of the bid.
The notice passed unanimously, 7-0.
