A Macomb teacher has been suspended with pay pending outcome of a criminal investigation on allegations of inappropriate comments being made to a student.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said deputies were called to the Macomb School and asked to check into a situation involving possible inappropriate verbal comments by a male teacher to a 13-year-old female student.
Deputy Scott Hawkins has interviewed the student and teacher in the case, Booth said, and written statements also have been gathered from others as part of this investigation, which began Wednesday.
“At this point, it may not be a criminal violation,” Booth said late Thursday, but he also added that his office has turned over the case to the district attorney’s office. Prosecutors will take a closer look and decide how to proceed, he said.
Booth, who said he was informed the teacher had been placed on suspension while these issues are being looked at, said he didn’t know if any other complaints have surfaced involving this same teacher. No names were being released, he said.
Macomb’s superintendent couldn’t be reached for further information.
