An Ada man who shot and killed a woman in his home in November 2007 has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Defense attorneys for 26-year-old Allen Keith Gastineau admit he killed 25-year-old Crystal Cavanaugh but say he didn't know right from wrong.

Prosecutors say a psychiatrist they hired to examine Gastineau couldn't determine whether he was insane.

Gastineau told police he let Cavanaugh into his home because she said her boyfriend was beating her. He said he shot her after finding her going through his belongings.

Gastineau will be sent to the Oklahoma Forensics Center for a mental evaluation to help determine if he'll be committed to a mental institution.
