Trials set as jury term starts today

Several trials, including cases involving drug trafficking, a shooting as well as a stabbing incident, are scheduled during a jury term this week in Pottawatomie County District Court.

According to the expected docket, a Stigler woman is scheduled to stand trial before District Judge John Canavan.

Danette Lola McNeal, 46, is charged with the felony of aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs in connection with a 2009 case. She is accused of knowingly possessing more than one pound of methamphetamine when arrested by Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s deputies near Dale.

Also Monday, Associate District Judge John Gardner is expected to preside over a trial involving charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

In that case, Donald Vernon Gregg, 53, will stand trial in connection with the stabbing of a resident at a Shawnee housing complex, 101 W. 10th.

Gregg is accusing of using a knife to stab and injure Herbron Bryan Hughes, 43, in the head and neck on April 23, 2011.

After those trials conclude, a third trial is scheduled for Jason Randell Rice, 31, who is charged with shooting with intent to kill, a felony, for an alleged incident May 15, 2011 at 303 S. Minnesota.

Charges allege Rice is accused of shooting his roommate, Clinton David Weese, with a Smith and Wesson 9 mm, with intent to kill him.
