OKLAHOMA CITY —
The Internal Revenue Service says at least 173,000 Oklahomans must file a 2007 federal income tax return by Oct. 15 to beat the deadline for requesting an economic stimulus payment.
People must file a tax return in order to get the payment.
The IRS estimates more than 63,000 recipients of Social Security and veterans benefits have not filed a 2007 return. Another 110,000 Oklahomans who got an extension from the usual April 15 tax deadline, have also not yet filed.
The IRS has issued $94 billion in economic stimulus payments so far.
Stimulus payments start at $300, but go higher depending on marital status and number of children.
