Voters in Seminole County head to the polls Tuesday to decide primary races for county officers.
Wewoka residents will vote on two propositions to change the city charter.
Three county races are for registered Democrats only for the primary.
For County Commissioner District No. 1, incumbent Ted Eberle is running against Herb Williams.
For County Commissioner District No. 3, four candidates, Mike Streater, incumbent John Kirby, Jimmy W. Jones and Clifton R. Taylor are vying for the position.
For Court Clerk, Kim A. Davis is pitted against incumbent Janie Robinson. For sheriff, incumbent Shannon D. Smith has two opponents, Raymond Sharp and Michael Tenney.
Two charter amendments are on the ballot for Wewoka residents.
Proposition No. 1 would change how mayor and council races are voted upon.
The proposition reads “In both the primary and general election, candidates for mayor and councilmen shall be voted on at-large by the qualified electors of the entire city.”
Proposition No. 2 would change the date of primary elections for mayor and councilmen.
According to the election ballot, the proposition reads “A primary election shall be held on the second Tuesday in January 2006, and each year thereafter to nominate candidates for mayor and/or councilmen to succeed those whose terms are expiring in the respective year. If more than one person is a candidate for an office to be filled, those person’s names shall appear on the primary or general election ballot. Every qualified elector of the city shall be entitled to vote for one candidate for mayor and councilman.”
A yes vote changes the current charter, a no vote does not.
