SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The annual auction and Tasty Affair of the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce set an all-time record this year by raising more than $56,000.
The event, held Thursday at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center, is the chamber’s only fund raiser. All proceeds go towards the chamber’s ongoing work in the community.
“We had a record-breaking event. It is better than ever,” said Margaret Davis, chamber organization division chairwoman and co-chair of the event. “It is just incredible. I am so excited.”
Davis said it is the chamber’s goal to raise more money each year than at previous auctions. Last year’s earnings totaled just over $50,000.
Aside from the record earnings, Davis said the auction drew a record crowd, and the Tasty Affair portion of the event drew a record number of participating local restaurants.
“Everything about it was just fabulous,” she said. “I appreciate the community for supporting us. They just consistently step up to the plate.”
Davis said the event is a success because of the combined efforts of all involved. Local businesses and individuals contribute items for auction, and local restaurants provide samples of their cuisine.
