Properly installed car seats are a must when keeping young children safe. That’s why the Shawnee Community Partners and United Way of Pottawatomie County Success By 6 are hosting a car seat safety check as part of the Child Passenger Safety Week 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Harvey’s Inc.
Certified Car Seat Technicians will be available to inspect car seats and a limited number of free car seats will be available for families needing to upgrade or replace seats for safety reasons.
This is a community event made possible by the following sponsors and Certified Car Seat Technicians: Dennis Morris State Farm Insurance, Shawnee Fire Marshal, Pottawatomie County Healthy Department, Harvey’s Inc., Unity Health Center, Youth & Family Services, Pottawatomie County OSU Extension Agency, Shawnee Fire Department, Oklahoma Highway Safety Office and the United Way of Pottawatomie County, along with many of the Success By 6 Coalition members.
The program will kick off a new program called Seats for Safety. The program will provide car seats to qualifying families at half the cost of purchasing them in a department store. We will be releasing more information as we get closer to kicking off the program.”
If you are unable to drive through the car seat safety check station Sept. 20, but would still like to have your car seat inspected, there are two checking stations in Shawnee thanks to the Shawnee Fire Department.
To schedule an inspection call the Shawnee Fire Department at 878-1671. This will ensure that Certified Technicians are available when you visit.
