The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma elected Leonard Harjo as its new principal chief and Ella Colman the new assistant chief during its recent elections. 
The election went into a run-off between Harjo and Terry Spencer, with Harjo winning by a 60-percent margin. Colman won the run-off between herself and Cynthia Yerby. 
Harjo was sworn into office by Enoch Kelly Haney, his predessor, on Sept. 5 at the Mekusukey Mission near Seminole. Colman was sworn in by Judge William Wantland in the Seminole language. There were over 200 in attendance from the Seminole community at the potluck dinner that followed.
