FireLake Grand Casino and KRXO/KOKC will host a celebrity poker tournament to fight Muscular Dystrophy from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the FireLake Grand Casino Events Center.
“More than a million people are afflicted with a neuromuscular disease in the United States,” said Brad Peltier, director of marketing at FireLake Grand Casino. “When we were approached by KRXO to host a celebrity tournament to help Oklahomans with muscular dystrophy, FireLake Grand Casino immediately said yes.”
The one-day tournament will pit local celebrities with other Texas hold ’em fans for a chance to win their share of $20,000 in cash with an additional $10,000 being donated to the Oklahoma City affiliate of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
“With support from community partners like FireLake Grand Casino, KRXO and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, MDA is able to fund a clinic at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, assist with the purchase of durable medical equipment and send children ages 6-17 to MDA Summer Camp in Guthrie, Oklahoma,” said Andrea Pope, district director for MDA.
Scheduled to play in the tournament are former KOKC Total Access Sports Talk Show host, James Hale, along with his co-host former University of Oklahoma football player, two time All-American and two-time National Champion Jimbo Elrod; News 9’s Doug Warner; and KRXO’s David Kelso and Lee Roberts.
“We have 200 seats available for the tournament,” said Buddy Wiley, operations manager for KRXO.  “We want Oklahoma’s card sharks to come out and support MDA.  We want to fill every seat.”
The cost to play in the tournament is $100 per person. The money raised will go toward research programs, clinics and a camp for Jerry’s Kids.
