The second day of a three-day filing period for school board seats open in Pottawatomie County school districts brought four more candidates in to the running Tuesday.
In the Grove C-27 district, Traci Huff joined John R. Brown and Ernest R. Clark in the race for the Office No. 1 seat. In McLoud’s I-1 district, Joe D. Nolen filed to run against Jim Walker for Office No. 5.
Edward Williamson became the sole filer thus far for Office No. 5 in the Wanette, I-115 district. Scott W. Hawkins, Tecumseh, filed for the Office No. 5 seat in Macomb’s I-4 district and as of Tuesday was the only filer for that seat.
Other declarations of candidacy within Pottawatomie County include those in Tecumseh’s I-92 district with David J. Qualls, current Office No. 5 seat holder, seeing opposition in the race for seat No. 5 from two candidates: Sheila Evans and Mike Atchley. Each of the three candidates for the No. 5 seat on Tecumseh’s school board filed Monday.
In the Earlsboro I-5 district, Tracey Poe, Shawnee, and Louie A. Goad Jr., who filed their declarations Monday, remained the only candidates to file for Office No. 5 as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Additional single filings — all declared Monday at the Pottawatomie County Election Board — include:
• Rickey A. Gowin for Office No. 1 of the North Rock Creek school district;
• Jerry L. Skaggs for Office No. 1 in the Pleasant Grove school district;
• Robin Wiley Greene for Office No. 5 of the Dale school district;
• Mary Sue McNeil for South Rock Creek’s Office No. 1;
• Holli Jackson for the Office No. 5 seat in Bethel;
• Tommy Gregg for Asher’s Office No. 5 seat;
• Kelly Teague for the Office No. 2 seat in Wanette;
• Randy Kerr for the Office No. 5 seat in Maud;
• Janice Spears for Shawnee’s Office No. 3;
• Jesse O. Hernandez for Shawnee’s Office No. 6; and
• William Thompson for Zone No. 2 at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
Today is the last day of filings for open school board seats. Interested individuals may file for candidacy between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Pottawatomie County Election Board, 325 N. Broadway, Shawnee.
