Members of the Shawnee Police Association, the city’s police union, have elected a new slate of officers to the union’s executive board.

The action comes after the unexpected news last Thursday that former union president Ken King and two members of the executive board had resigned.

Officers held a special union meeting Monday night and elected Jason Crouch to serve as union president; Charles Swantek to serve as vice-president and Heath Streater to serve as treasurer.

Last Thursday, a letter, headlined “Attention” and addressed to all union members from King, was placed on the union bulletin board in the police briefing room.

“Effective immediately, I have resigned as Union President,” it said, adding that Lloyd Fulton, the vice president and Kim Dibble, treasurer, also had resigned their union executive board positions.

“I recommend you schedule a meeting as soon as possible to elect a new executive board,” the letter concluded.

That meeting was held Monday night. The union secretary, who is currently deployed through the military and on extended leave, is the only union position unchanged.
