Reception to be held for interim SGU president

St. Gregory’s University will host a reception Dec. 3 following the installation and blessing of its interim president, David Marker, Ph.D. The event will start at 3 p.m. in the Great Room of the Rockwood Center on SGU’s campus, and the public is encouraged to attend.
Marker was appointed to the interim post in October and officially took office Nov. 1 at the state’s oldest institution for higher learning. Marker has an extensive background of leadership in higher education. He began his academic career on the faculty of Hope College in Holland, Mich., and served there as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Provost. He was appointed President of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1984, serving in the position until 1993. He then served as President of Des Moines University 1993 to 1996.
Marker has experience as interim president at several colleges: Morningside College 1998 to 1999 and a recently-completed term at Pacific Oaks College. He has also served as interim the chief academic officer at Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii; Maryville University of St. Louis, Mo.; and Assumption College, Worcester, Mass.
