For the sixth year the Tecumseh Public Library will host the annual Old Fashioned Christmas Gala to kick off the holiday season.
The popular event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Tecumseh City Hall, 114 N. Broadway.
This annual event has grown each year and brings hundreds of people to the library to have free kid’s picture taken with Santa Claus, get a cup of hot chocolate or cider, and make a craft. Children have a chance to win prizes at the many fun and challenging games being offered such as a book walk, dartboard, bean bag toss, and pin the nose on Rudolph. You can also hop on a horse-drawn wagon for a free ride around downtown Tecumseh.
Always popular at the gala are the free balloons by balloon artist Glen Mason, who makes a wide variety of animal, flower and other shapes for the kids.
Participants can shop more than 15 vendors at the Old Fashioned Christmas Store for ornaments, other Christmas items, and baked goods offered for sale at booths from local crafters and businesses. A wide variety of attractive, inexpensive items will be available.
The children’s handbell choir of Sharon Baptist Church will perform a special musical program full of Christmas carols and holiday spirit. The group has performed at the gala in the past and was a delight to hear and watch. A special reading of The Night before Christmas will be presented.
This free library event is offered by the Tecumseh Public Library who partner with the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of the Tecumseh Library to host the gala. The free pictures will be offered as time permits and supplies last. For more information on this event, call the library at 598-5955.
