SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The Shawnee Fire Department is beginning to flush and inspect the city’s 1,400 fire hydrants. Work will be between Highland and Independence Street Wednesday and between Independence and MacArthur streets Thursday and Friday, all west of Kickapoo.
The following week, they will work from south to north between Kickapoo and Harrison streets. The increased water flow may cause temporary water discoloration in some areas. Residents are asked to use caution when washing light-colored laundry.
