SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The Shawnee Convention and Visitors Bureau will present “DIG SHAWNEE 2008: A Summer Adventure,” beginning Sunday, May 25.
Throughout the 10-week event, residents and visitors are encouraged to find the clues published every Sunday, and again on Wednesdays, in The Shawnee News-Star. Each clue will lead to a participating business, and each business will have a weekly drawing for gift certificates and prizes.
On Aug. 6, every name from every business from every week will be entered into a grand prize drawing worth more than $750.
“We want to encourage residents and visitors to see our town, visit our restaurants, attractions and retail,” said Angie Nichols, SCVB Hospitality Committee chairwoman and Shawnee Mall marketing manager. “With the price of gas, people are looking for things to do closer to home. This is a great way to get out and have some fun, see Shawnee and win some prizes at the same time.”
People are encouraged to play as often as they like. Since there is a drawing at each location, one entry is all it takes to have the chance to win the business drawing as well as the grand prize drawing.
There is no purchase necessary for entry at any of the participating locations.
“There will be something for everyone, including the scents of fresh-cut flowers, the taste of good steak and the sound of drums,” Nichols said.
DIG SHAWNEE is a project of the Shawnee Convention and Visitors Bureau Hospitality Committee and is sponsored by The Shawnee News-Star. For more information, go to www.visitshawnee.com or call (405) 275-9780. Clues will be posted on the Web site within 48 hours of News-Star publications.
