The Tecumseh of Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards banquet Thursday night to celebrate those whose time and talents have resulted in many accomplishments for the chamber and city over the past year.
The night’s theme: “Tecumseh Today, Working Toward Tomorrow.”
Also honored for their work were Autumn Brown, executive director of the chamber, and Debbie Moore, the chamber’s office manager.
At the end of the program, Outgoing Chamber President Bob Stewart passed the gavel to Incoming President Aaron O’Rorke.
Citizen of the Year: Sharon Stewart
The Citizen of the Year award recognizes an outstanding individual who promotes Tecumseh and its value of life. Stewart, who is working on a Walking Trails grant application, has been instrumental trying to improve Tecumseh’s parks. She accepted the award from her husband, outgoing Chamber President Bob Stewart.
Small Business of the Year and Business Renovation of the Year: Bamboo Garden
Meiquin Xiao, known to her customers as Sandy, accepted both honors for Tecumseh’s new restaurant, Bamboo Garden.
Business of the Year: Clemence Tire
Clemence Tire was named Business of the Year, with co-owner Vincent Hall accepting the honor.
New Construction of the Year: McDonald’s
Tecumseh’s McDonald’s was honored with the award, accepted by two McDonald’s officials.
Business Person of the Year: Tie — David Qualls and Suzanne Gilbert
Qualls operates several business ventures, including Skyvision DVR in Tecumseh, while Gilbert operates Tecumseh Tag Agency/Gilbert Insurance.
Chamber Volunteers of the Year: Bob Stewart and Fran Topping
Tecumseh’s Friendliest Employee: Beth Jeffcoat
Jeffcoat, who has worked at Tecumseh City Hall for 34 years, was honored.
Changing of the Presidential Guard:
Incoming Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce President Aaron O’Rorke presented the outgoing gavel award to Outgoing Chamber President Bob Stewart.
