More than 400 citizens showed their support for local and area boys and girls by attending the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s bean supper, their annual fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club “Back To School Basics.”
Through the generosity and support of local merchants giving merchandise for door prizes, Marta Land, Auxiliary president, called a lucky winner’s name every 15 minutes.
She was assisted by young girls and boys, like Levi Kelley, pulling a winning ticket from the basket.
The silent auction raised $1,050 for the Boys and Girls Club, according to Shirley Madden and Sarah Oliver. Treasurer Jamie Bell said the bean supper raised $2,525.
Sarah Oliver, silent auction chair, went over her list of items several times, with Mary Ann Luman and Carole Brown, to make sure she had everything in order, for the evening event.
Her son, Wyatt, was an eager helper in carrying and displaying.
Bean Supper Chair Shirley Madden, Nita Saladin, Dona Moore, Barbara Eppler and many others had been at the Fellowship Hall all day stirring beans and getting things set up, but were there with their smiles, welcoming and serving all the patrons.
Majors Mike and Lori Barnhouse and Dianne Collins had been involved in all the activity by offering their assistance when needed.
They join Marta Land, Shirley Madden, Sarah Oliver and all the SAWA members by expressing their enthusiasm and appreciation to all the local and surrounding communities for their support in making the bean supper a success.
All money raised from this event goes entirely to the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club to help provide the basics of needed school supplies for the estimated 900, in order to see that every child starts the year off right.
