Reservations are being accepted for Unity Health Center’s seventh annual Women’s Healthy Heart Luncheon, which will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee.
Dr. Scott Stewart, family medicine, will be a featured speaker at the luncheon. He will cover the warning signs for women and men for heart attacks and strokes.
Another featured speaker will be stroke survivor Jeannie Skillings, who will speak about her experience and the warning signs of a stroke.
Finally, Amy Carte of the Oklahoma Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program will talk about where the state is in heart and stroke prevention verses the rest of the nation.
The Heart Healthy Luncheon is free, but reservations are required because of limited seating. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Feb. 4 by calling 878-3496.

Statistics from the American Heart Association include the following:
• Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. .3 killers of women over the age of 25.
• Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including stroke, claims nearly twice as many women’s lives as all forms of cancer.
• One in 2.6 women die of heart disease, stroke and other CVD diseases, compared with one in 30 from breast cancer.
• Overall, more women than men die of stroke each year.
• 64 percent of women who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had no previous symptoms.
• Within six years after a recognized heart attack, 35 percent of women will have another heart attack; 11 percent will have a stroke; 46 percent will be disabled with heart failure; and 6 percent will experience sudden cardiac death.
• One in three women in the U.S. suffers from some form of cardiovascular disease.
