Shawnee city commissioners Monday will consider the annexation of land and evaluate the performance of the city manager. Commissioners also will be presented the annual report of the Shawnee Convention and Visitor Bureau (SCVB) by Executive Director Gordona Rowell.

The commissioners will reconvene a public hearing and possibly consider an ordinance to annex property owned by the Kickapoo Tribe. The tribe is requesting the land to be annexed by the city to get utility services for a planned gaming facility.

The property is located northwest of the intersection of MacArthur Street and Acme Road, and east of the U.S.177 and MacArthur Street intersection.

The public hearing was deferred at the last two commission meetings in January and December.

The commissioners will also consider an executive session to discuss City Manager Brian McDougal’s annual evaluation.

Part of the report will include Shawnee’s hotel occupancy rate for the last 10 years.

After hitting a 10-year low in 2009 at 59.1 percent during the latest decline in the economy, the occupancy for Shawnee hotels was up to 63.8 percent in 2011. This generated more than $9.7 million in “room revenue,” according to the report.

Commissioners are also expected to take action on a bid recommendation for the Community Center fire and suppression system. City staff will recommend commissioners award the project to Express Fire Protection, Inc for the amount of $48,700, which is more than $30,000 under budget.
