Family Promise of Shawnee hosted its annual Volunteer Awards Banquet recently at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Geiger Center. Approximately 100 people were in attendance. Volunteers were recognized for helping homeless families with children.
Family Promise of Shawnee is a faith-based program that helps homeless families with children by providing shelter, food, transportation, and case management. Local churches provide overnight lodging (in their church facili- ties) for the families and a hot evening meal. Each hosting and helper church has a Family Promise coordinator that organizes their hosting week. The coordinators who were recognized include:
Calvary Baptist Church, Mike McIver; Countryside Pentecostal Church of God, Melissa Rice; Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Elizabeth Davis and Sue Ellen Frerichs; Evangelistic Center Church, Billy Divelbiss; First Baptist Church, Jan Tipton; First Church of the Nazarene, Erin Dick; Galilee Baptist Church, Ron Stanberry.
And, Lakeview Church of Christ, John and Rene Clemmons; Liberty Baptist Church, Margaret Ward and Cathy Norman; Northridge Church of Christ, Tom and Donna Snodgrass; St. Benedict Catholic Church, Chris and Carrie Farve; St. John Lutheran Church, Elsie Bryant; St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Nancy Bryce and Elsie Beck; United Presbyterian Church, Brannyn McDougal; University Baptist Church, Kalene Barbe, Audrey Roach, Michael Cappo, Kendall Copeland.
Individuals who displayed exceptional volunteerism in their congregation were recognized as “Volunteer of the Year.”
