The city of Shawnee could have a city manager in place by the end of the week if commissioners agree on one candidate.
City Commissioners will interview two prospects Thursday afternoon and convene in executive session to discuss the hiring more in-depth.
Commissioners will consider Brian E. McDougal of Valdosta, Ga., and Gary Dumas of Fayetteville, Ark.
McDougal has served as city manager for Remerton, Ga., since 2004, and has been on the faculty at Valdosta State University since 2001. He was city manager at Royston, Ga., from 2003 to 2004 and was assistant director of planning for South Georgia RDC in Valdosta, Ga., and a planner for the city of Athens, Ga., from 1995 to 1999.
His resume states he leads a 17-person staff with four department heads who oversee various departments, including accounting, planning, utilities, contracts, probation, public information, water/sewer, sanitation and public safety.
He earned a master of science degree in public administration and urban studies from Georgia State University, a bachelor of science degree in community planning and development from Georgia State University and an associate’s of science in liberal arts from South Suburban College.
Dumas has been employed with the city of Fayetteville, Ark., since May 2001 as director of operations. He served as public works director with Sioux City, Iowa, from June 1995 to July 2000; director of planning with Sioux City, Iowa, from November 1989 to June 1995; director of planning with San Angelo, Texas, from July 1985 to October 1989; planning director at Victoria, Texas, from February 1984 to July 1985 and planning division head for Corpus Christi, Texas from February 1979 to February 1984.
Dumas worked toward a master’s of public administration from the University of South Dakota and worked toward a master’s of city and regional planning from Memphis State University. He has earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from North Texas State University and an associate’s degree from Grayson Junior College.
