Republican voters in Lincoln County favored candidate Paul Coffey in Tuesday’s run-off bid for the Republican spot on the sheriff’s ballot. Unofficial results show that Coffey defeated opponent Dennis E. Rhodes by a vote of 659 to 298, which translates to 68.8 percent of voter support.
Democratic voters favored Jerry T. White over opponent Charlie Dougherty for the Democratic spot on the sheriff’s ballot. Unofficial results show that White received 53.8 percent of voter support in defeating Dougherty by a vote of 984 to 844.
Coffey and White will now move on to face off in the November general election to see who replaces A.T. Brixey as Lincoln County sheriff. Brixey did not file for re-election.
Democratic voters in Seminole county favored candidate Fred Combs over incumbent Jvon James for the District 2 county commissioner seat. Unofficial results from Tuesday’s run-off indicated that James was defeated by a vote of 445 to 257.
No Republican candidates filed for the seat during the June filing period, so Combs will not move on to the November general election.
Unofficial results show that Lincoln County voters in the Perkins-Tryon School District favored a proposition to allow the district to issue more than $7 million in bonds for the purpose of remodeling school buildings; acquiring furniture, fixtures and equipment; and improving school sites. Lincoln County voters approved it by a vote of 72 to 58, which translates to 55.3 percent support.
Officials at the Payne County Election Board could not be reached to verify the proposition’s passage or failure based on votes from the school district’s Payne County residents. The proposition requires a 60 percent super majority vote to pass, and votes from Lincoln and Payne county residents would be combined for the overall tally.
