Shawnee resident Britan Mills, daughter of Chuck and Karen Mills, recently received the title and crown of Miss Oklahoma City 2010.
The contest consisted of several different categories which comprised her overall score, including talent, 35 percent; interview, 25 percent; swimsuit, 20 percent; evening gown, 15 percent; and on-stage question, five percent.
Mills’ prize package included a $500 cash scholarship, an official Miss America local sash and crown, a $3,200 Body Trends Spa Treatment package, and $8,500 to various other universities. She will compete for the title of Miss Oklahoma, a preliminary to Miss America, this June in Tulsa.
Mills is a public relations junior at the University of Oklahoma, minoring in women’s studies.
She is currently in her second year of interning with the Victoria’s Secret PINK brand.
Mills is also active in PRSSA, is a Gaylord Ambassador, and serves as the Hispanic American Student Association events chair.
She is the vice president of Communications of Pi Beta Phi sorority, as well as the President’s Trophy chair and Panhellenic delegate.
She has served on various Campus Activities Council executive committees including homecoming and has served as Dance Marathon Fashion Show chair, in addition to performing in University Sing and Sooner Scandals. Mills is currently serving as the executive chair of Howdy Week 2009.
She is the Student Alumni Association Ring chair and a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, OU Cousins and a Camp Crimson Orientation leader.
Mills, a recipient of the 2008 OU Parent’s Association Sophomore scholarship award, has volunteered her time to Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past year.
She has also volunteered for the Shawnee Public Library, TOP Soccer, Read Across America, Big Event, and various other service organizations.
She devotes her energy to several areas of philanthropy, including her personal platform which focuses on relational aggression: a form of violence where one uses gossip, rumor spreading, name-calling, cyber-bullying, alliance building or exclusion to harm others.
Upon graduation, Mills plans to attend graduate school and hopes to work in corporate public relations.
