Local schools are reaping the benefits of Sonic Drive-In limeade sales and customer votes following a promotion with the fast-food restaurants that began in September.
Sonic’s Limeades for Learning promotion allowed customers who purchased small through Route 44 soft drinks and frozen drinks to peel off a sticker from the cups and use the included code at a designated Web site to vote for specific teachers or teacher’s projects at schools within their area.
Sonic committed to donating about $100,000 per week for school projects selected by voting customers.
“We were pleased to be involved in helping our community and schools” John Winterringer, Wintco marketing coordinator, said. “It’s very gratifying to help in meeting the needs of teachers and students.”
Among first and second week school winners were four projects for Shawnee schools and one project each from Macomb and McLoud schools.
Week three local project winners were “Pre-K Needs a Healthy Place to Rest,” Bethel Elementary School; “Sensational Science,” Bethel Elementary School; “Cozy Cubbies,” Bethel Elementary School; “Flow, Reading, Flow!” Bethel Elementary School; and “Cooking with Cougar Kindergarten,” North Rock Creek Elementary School.
Week four winners were “Lifecycle Unit Egg Turner and Learning Box, Paint and Brushes,” Bethel Elementary School; “Listen Up!” Bethel Elementary School; “Celebrate the Possibilities,” Horace Mann Elementary School; and “GEO our World,” South Rock Creek Elementary School.
Horace Mann Elementary received a new ice machine from Sonic after Shawnee football coaches approached Sonic, alerting them of the need for one at the school.
